As a digital art director I started the redesign process by helping conduct a series of discovery activities involving stakeholder interviews, user experience student focus groups, collaborative working sessions, and a competitor audit. Based on what was heard I wanted to create a unified web presence for a school that spans three campuses, easily guide users to relevant content, and showcase Rutgers’ 80+ graduate programs and certificates. 

After the final strategy was approved I began exploring visual directions in the form of style tiles. The style tiles acted as a catalyst for discussion with the client to get approval before moving into building out the full user interface pattern library and components. Our final design system allowed brand consistency from page to page, flexibility based on content needs, and an improved authoring experience in the Drupal content management system.
